Recently visited Melbourne, the hilight was a visit to this resturant. Some of the best food ever, anywhere. The lamb chops and Penang curry were amazing. I had to have the cookbook. Thankfully Amazon had it. Cannot wait to try the recipes myself.

Yet another complete reference library in one book.

Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946 is the third in a series of 4 books which, as the title suggests, lists all the worlds fighting ships built during the period in question. Initially, these were post-WW1 years in which some countries favoured disarmament whilst others harboured expansionist plans. This was also a time when the Aircraft Carrier would totally eclipse the mighty Battleship as "King of the Seas." Eventually, the advent of WW2 and the way in which the USA entered that war added a whole new dimension to warship design and production.

Conway Maritime Press are well known for their factual books on ships - especially warships, in which they provide the finest technical documentation. "All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946" is hard-back measuring 12�" x 8�" with 456 pages of detailed and factual information. After a brief foreword and an explanation of abbreviations used, the navies of the world are listed by country in order of their size and importance at the beginning of the period in question - i.e. Great Britain and Empire Forces, USA, Japan, Germany, etc and continuing right down to the world's smallest navies from the Middle East, Far East and Latin America. Each country's ships are then displayed by "class" commencing with the largest capital ships and progressing all the way down to the smallest torpedo boats (or whatever) with the oldest vessels mentioned first. For each class there is one or more of those profile line drawings which have become Conway's trademark. These are followed by all the usual technical details such as; Displacement, dimensions, machinery, armour, armament and complement followed by the names of each ship within that class - it's builder, date laid down, date completed and fate. These are accompanied by a very "readable" text from which we learn of the political intrigue of the day, variations between vessels, refits, new equipment, whatever defects or other problems beset either the class or a specific ship and a short r�sum� of the fate of each vessel.

Altogether, the book is well illustrated with an excellent selection of historic black and white original photographs throughout with at least one picture on almost every page.

In summary, this is an excellent technical work of reference and one which will continue to stand the test of time. Put another way, this is one of those books you will wish you had bought - after it becomes out of print.

This weighty tome may appear to be more useful as some sort of murder weapon (blunt force trauma I think the TV shows call it) but.... wow.

A book as dense on statistics as it's size would indicate this thing is replete with ship histories, vital (and non vital) stats and a whole heapin' helpin' of line drawings and photographs that make this an excellent reference work for naval historians, naval wargamers and modellers. The barrage of raw data will have your inner pedantic whinger fully satisfied and given it covers a fairly important era (WW2 - duh) is the sort of thing that the general armchair general may also very well like on their bookshelf along with the other volumes in this series. If your bookshelf and your wallet can take the collective strain that is.

Overall this is the sort of book none of your friends can afford but that they'll all want to flick through when they come over. A fine, fine reference work that belongs on every naval buffs collection.

Apex of Scholarship of a fascinating subject

This is truly a work of great erudition and scholarship. Well-written and much researched, I have found this the most interesting and most complete biography about the inestimable John Milton written heretofore. I highly, highly recommend this text to anyone who wishes to gain a keen understanding not only of John Milton's life, but the author gives a pertinent description of the times in which Milton lived--arcane details and customs without knowledge of which, Milton's genius and his prolific output would seem incomprehensible.

I am extremely grateful that I found this book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in John Milton, the English Civil War, Cromwell's Protectorate, the Stuart Restoration, proto-Libertarianism, etc. This book stands out as a cynosure among many books written about this enigmatic but extremely important historical figure. The author is a distinguished authority on the subject and employs her wit and sagacity in analyzing and explaining the facts, insights, and settings of John Milton's genius.

I originally purchased David Hawkes' John Milton: A Hero of Our Time biography about John Milton and found it utterly wanting: little actual biographical account, much speculation, and many pages of criticism of capitalistic society. Hawkes spends many a page condemning the charging of interest rates, and the entire structure of finance and modern industry. No matter where one stands on those points, I believe it may be agreed that a biography ostensibly about the great John Milton is not the proper venue thereof.

Absolutely absorbing and elegantly written biography of a great man!

Incredibly interesting and really a good, hard look at the life of John Milton and what inspired him and what aroused his wrath. His poems are eternal and deal with things secular and spiritual. His words have come down to us through many centuries and they are still as powerful as the day he wrote them. What a true genius! What a stunningly beautiful biography...I couldn't put it down.

A complete picture of playing craps

Came back from Vegas and wanted to learn more so I ordered 6 different books and have tested the strategies. This book was among the top 3 since it covered all aspects of playing craps including money management, a full review of different betting strategies, as well as a quick overview of the basics. Vogel does not unrealistically set your winning expectations as it done by other authors to sell books. I also highly recommend John Patrick's "So You Wanna Be A Gambler: Adv. Craps" book and note that Edell's "How to Make Your Living Playing Craps" may be worth reading as well.

What A Book!

Despite my relative experience at the game ( I've been a player and avid fan of the game for over 5 years), I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Vogel has a lot of great gambling methods that have really made a difference in the level of my winnings. In addition, he probably has one of the best methods for maintaining discipline and managing your money, methods that carry over to most casino games. Like I said before, I've been playing for years and read many books on the game. Before I read this one, I was averaging winnings of about $250/trip. Since I've read this, I've had three trips and won over $700 on each trip. I attribute some of this to my own experience, but mostly it is a result Vogel's excellent strategies and money management techniques. Novices and mid-level players will learn an incredible amount and should read this book before any other. Even those of you who have been playing for decades should pick this one up for the sections on money management alone.

Not the Dark Side of Romance!

I've often referred to the small romance books as "throw away" books because you can usually finish them in a couple of hours. Nightshade is a Silhouette Intimate Moments Book and definitely a quick read. It's also the 3rd book in Nora Roberts Night Series (the other two are also the short romance type of books). The entire series could be completed in less than a weekend of reading if you're trapped indoors with nothing else to do.

As with many of Nora Roberts' early books, the plot line is somewhat predictable, but still very enjoyable. It's the basic cookie-cutter romance plot: man meets woman (they are total opposites), sparks fly, romance ensues, and they live happily-ever-after. But one of Nora Roberts' best writing traits is her ability to develop characters so the reader feels they are real.

Colt Nightshade is a private detective looking for a runaway teenager being held against her will. In the course of his investigations, he becomes the unwilling partner of police Lt. Althea Grayson. This case hits Grayson a little too close to home for her to be completely objective. Thus the struggles of the main female character - she struggles with the case and with the attraction to Nightshade.

Colt Nightshade is the typical romantic male lead - handsome, debonair, and a bit intriguing with his bad-boy tendencies by not playing "by the book" to solve the case or win the affections of Althea.

While this dynamic duo are trying to sort out their feelings for each other, they are hot on the trail of the bad guys. Ok, didn't I mention "cookie cutter" romance above in my description??? Yep, and it even has a happily-ever-after ending too (bet you didn't see that coming!).

This book is typical and predictable but still an enjoyable read (as with most of Roberts' books)! The original Silhouette Intimate Moments book is out of print and is considered VERY HARD TO FIND but reprints are available!

This is a wonderful quick read full of passion, romance and suspense!

When Colt's friends seek his help in locating their runaway teenage daughter, Colt vows to track her down. He usually works alone. He doesn't care about rules and procedures; he just wants to find the girl before it's too late. When he crosses paths with the local police he decides to work with them in the hopes of getting faster results. Althea Grayson is the beautiful lieutenant he is paired with. As it becomes clear the young runaway may be in over her head, Colt and Althea rush to put the clues together to find her. As total opposites their personalities clash, but there's no denying their attraction to one another.
