Lazily written and barely helpful.
By Wycken
Using the excuse of "no spoilers," this "guide" was clearly written by someone who didn't bother to do their research on the game. Want a general walk through of each level? Great, this is the book for you, but want a guide that actually tells you the locations of badass points beyond vault symbols? Might as well save yourself $20 and just look it up online.

The book is broken down into several sections, including character breakdowns, suggestions on different ways to upgrade your character based on class and solo/co-op play style, weapon and item variants, and bestiary, and side quests. On the surface, this sounds great.

Here's what this "guide" is missing:

- An actual breakdown of level specific badass points challenges and how to achieve them. Yes, it has a section for them, but the section merely consists of in-game descriptions of each challenge. That's right, instead of telling you where items are located or how to go about achieving the challenge, the "guide" simply repeats what the game already told you about the challenge. Super helpful. Especially since unlike in previous games, several challenges are only available once, so if you missed them, better luck on your next play through.

- Notes throughout the walkthrough on upcoming, one-time only challenges. There's a point in the game when you have to kill a guy before another character does. He doesn't respawn, so you have 1 chance to get it right and kill him in under a second. While the guide mentions him in passing, it makes no reference to the forever after lost skill point. Thanks a lot Brady games!

- A detailed explanation of the Grinder. New to the series, the grinder allows you to place 3 different items in it, grinds them together, and, if you're lucky, spits out something shiny and more helpful. A breakdown on how this works and which items can be combined to create which weapons would be helpful here. There are fan-made videos on YouTube about how to make legendary weapons that specifically explain the order in which weapons much be placed in the Grinder - how hard could it have been to make a simple chart doing the same in this "guide?" If fans can figure it out, surely the guide writers could have.

- Detailed maps that show where all the hidden items can be found. As it stands, the maps in the walkthrough show where the vault symbols are located (which makes the entire section devoted to maps of locations showing vault symbols redundant), and numbers that reference certain sections described in the guide, but no mention of badass point items are made, or if they are, they're in another section of the book, so you need to flip between 3 different pages to find all the items in one area.

- Actual explanations in the "Easter Eggs" section at the back of the book. First, half these things aren't Easter Eggs, they're bosses. Second, the book references them, but not HOW to get them to show up! SERIOUSLY?? Why bother pointing out a weapon trapped in a stone but not what requirements I need to meet in order to pull it out? Or pointing out that there are hidden letters on buildings but not pointing out that the only way you can actually reach them is by grenade jumping, something the "guide" doesn't even bother to mention, OR where they can be used.

- More detail on additional areas in each level. The "guide" only tells you where to go to get through the basic walkthrough. Explore the rest of the map on your own time. Oh, wait, there are hidden areas you can only access in the rest of the map that may contain a bunch of loot, items, or extra baddies that can help you level but you would otherwise not encounter if you just followed the walkthrough? Why would we bother referencing THOSE?

Moreover, why would anyone buy this "guide?" You might as well just go online.

You have got to be kidding me.
By Film Buff
What an absolute joke. The retail price for this thing is $24.99. For that price, I shouldn't have to spend an additional $2.99 for an app to receive the information for which 99% of players bought this ridiculous guide in the first place. The strategy guide for Borderlands 2 has the locations for every single challenge in that entire game. Aside from the Cult of the Vault locations, this guide contains the locations for NONE OF THEM. As some sort of consolation, the guide contains a code to receive a "free e-guide" on the Prima Games website. The e-guide is absolutely identical to the book, thus you receive absolutely no additional information. Moreover, the site is so freakin slow, it made me want to pull out my hair.

Do not, I repeat, do not waste your money on this thing. It seems BradyGames made a conscious decision to rip people off. Don't give them that satisfaction. You can obtain all the information you need from youtube, and that doesn't cost you anything.

Brady game guides go the way of Prima....and it ain't pretty!
By Robert Badgley
I never thought I would see the day when Brady game guides would start down the same path as Prima, but it has finally come. The one reason I have always preferred a Brady game guide is that they seemed to be more thorough and their walkthroughs made out in a simple, easy to understand and logical manner. That is, no matter where you are in the game they told you where EVERYTHING was in relation to your location, and what the best strategy was to continue.I have both previous Borderlands and the guides have been awesome.
Now they have copied Prima games by putting most of the side/optional adventures to the REAR of the book. For instance, I was about a half dozen maps into the game when just by sheer coincidence I ran into a Vault key. These are symbols on sides of walls, caves, etc on every level whose discoveries all go to the good for your gameplay.I had completely forgot about it because it wasn't anywhere to be found on the page of the walkthrough I was on at that present moment. So I went back to the beginning of the guide to see if I had possibly missed something,a remote reference,anything.....nope.I finally found the Key of the Vaults near the back of the guide!!??? To top this, there was a side mission to deface some posters, which the guide DID mention. But there was no reference as to WHERE they were.Again I had to go looking and I finally found them....you guessed it,in the back!
This means folks, that instead of playing the game, and just leafing through the pages as you go(as was the case in previous Borderlands),you now have to wrestle with two or three EXTRA pages in the back at the same time. Sound fun? It is decidedly NOT.This has been Prima's method for a long time and now it seems Brady has come around to their way of "thinking"...at OUR expense.
Sorry Brady, but you get one star for providing the info, but your methodology is absolutely horrendous.Copy boy.....re-write!
