Training by practicing

What better way of learning by practicing ?
I finished the book and am surprised of the quality of the footage provided just for training purposes. For the price, it's a bargain.
Indeed it's almost impossible for non professionals to get access to this quality of footage.
I was not a total beginner in video editing but hadn't touched Final Cut Pro X before and I found myself in the perfect target audience.
This book is half on using FCPX, half on the art of editing. As a result it's a fast learning method but just a small introduction to the craft of the cut.
I prefer learning on a real book while practicing on the screen so that I don't have to switch applications on the screen.
Found a few mistakes while following rigorously each instructions but overall it was fairly easy to follow.
Editing my own version of the movie for the sequence left without detailed instructions and comparing my work to the provided final cut proved itself to be very useful.

Some Issues

It reads well and it's organized logically. The DVD promises to be a great asset but I haven't used it yet.
BUT it's as if it was made by Jekyll and Hyde. The photos are small and hopelessly dark; did anyone bother to proof this book before rolling production? And the font is too small and light.
I don't know why other posters have not complained about this too unless I got a copy from a bad run. If that's it I'd like to know so I can ask for a good one. Seriously, this is an issue for me and I think it will be for most who get a copy that looks like mine does.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had been up-to-date with the latest version of FINAL CUT PRO. Otherwise, it's a fantastic tutorial. FCP has a very steep learning curve so this publication (with DVD) really made it possible to survive.
